Trouble deploying to Windows 7

I'm getting an error in the Enterprise Console when trying to protect a new laptop running Windows 7; the message is:

"Window Workstation: cannot be installed automatically"

Enerprice Console Version - 2.0.0.1447

Laptop AV version - 6.5.0

I followed all the steps listed here: http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/63196.html but to no avail.

Can anyone help?

  • Hi there,

    Welcome to the forum.

One of the reasons you are having difficulty is down to the versions you are attempting to install with. The Enterprise Console version 2 is very old now. The current version of Enterprise Console is version 4.

Similarly the version of Sophos Anti-Virus is also very old and version 6.5 is no longer supported. Sophos Anti-Virus version 9 is required for Windows 7.

The downloads for the latest installers can be found here:

https://secure.sophos.com/support/updates/     (you will need to log in using your account)

    Hope this helps.

  • Luke, I was under the impression that Sophos AV v9 was recommended and not required for Windows 7.

  • Hi Myke,

Sophos Anti-Virus 7 does seem to work quite happily on Windows 7 and I've not seen any problems specific to this version. However official support for Windows 7 begins with Sophos Anti-Virus 9.

    Hope that clears things up.

  • I am also having trouble with Windows 7 but with the Firewall.  Anti Virus has installed fine, however I don't seem able to enable the firewall. The installation seemed to run fine, I can configure but it is always in a disabled state. Anyone got any tips or ideas?

    Thanks

  • Thanks for your reply Luke,

I went to upgrade to SEC v4 this morning but got the message cannot upgrade from v2 to v4. I'm guessing I need to upgrade to v3 first & then on to v4 but cannot find a download of SEC v 3 - would you have a link to it - or is there another way of upgrading to v4?

    Regards,

    Keith.

  • Hi Keith and Keith :smileyhappy:

With regards to the firewall not enabling have you rebooted since the installation took place? A reboot is required after install in order to load the drivers for the firewall.

If you have rebooted perhaps check to see if the Sophos Client Firewall service is disabled for some reason. Let us know if your still having difficulty.

Regarding the upgrade to SEC4 you will need to upgrade to SEC3 first and then migrate to SEC4 as there is no direct path from SEC2. The link below should allow you download SEC3 (you will still have to login of course):

    https://secure.sophos.com/support/updates/dp/full/es31sfx.exe

The only other alternative to installing SEC4 is to start afresh but that of course means loosing your exisiting database and policies etc so would be worth trying the above!

  • Hi Luke - no joy so far, rebooting the system had no effect - can't seem to find any way of enabling the firewall - all the settings imply it is enabled but the message is that it is disabled - having to use the windows firewall at the  moment

Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated

  • Luke, tried uninstalling and then re-installing, same result - message  Firewall service failure do I need to do something specific with Windows 7 to prepare the laptop to have the software installed?

    Many thanks
