How to monitor WAN and VPN outages?

Hi,

we have problems on remote/branch offices with ISP, because PPPoE internet link is dropping sporadically, sometimes every few minutes, sometimes it is OK for whole month. Drop is not significant in time units, just a disconnect and reconnect usually, but VPN also drops and does not re-establish back.

Now, with previous Draytek routers it was just a swift with an eye over dashboard, where WAN and VPN last uptimes were shown. I imediattely knew whether link is stable or not.

What about now with XGS-136 and XGS-87 in branch offices? I cannot find such an indicator anywhere, except detailed log examination, which takes time. Anybody have an idea maybe how could I simply see latest WAN and VPN links uptimes in XGS interface?

  • Great idea!

As I do not know SD-WAN, just double checking what to do to just monitor:

    • Where I create SD-WAN Gateway? Under SD-WAN Route, or under Gateways?
    •  Inder SD-WAN PROFILES, I probably create new profile, select that only one WAN Gateway I have...what about lower section, which says about deactivating gateway? I do not want the only WAN gateway to be ever deactivated.
