changing primary email address -> No Spam digest and user portal qurantine

Hi all,

we have changed for all our AD users the primary email address from <surename<@<domain>.de to <forename>.<surename>@<domain>.de

No we have a big problem, that nearly no digest is send to the users. And if you take a look in the user portal you will also not see the qurantined mails. If I take a look on the XGS Admin Panel -> Email -> SMTP Qurantine I can see all quarantined mails.

This is a problem we are facing for about 4 months, but our service provider and sophos itself are not able to get this problem solved.

Any Suggestions on that?

Thanks for your help

  • Essentially: Digest are only send to the user if the Email address is correctly setup.

You will have to setup a field in AD, which includes the following format: [Email],[Email],[Email].
This field you can then import as Email into SFOS (in the AD Server).

See:  XG quarantine and alias adresses from AD sync

Generally speaking - I would always go with Central Email instead of Email Protection on the firewall, as Central Email gives you a more granular approach to Email than both firewall products (UTM and SFOS).

  •   what exactly do you mean by "setup a new field in AD". How can I Setup up such a field for every User?

  • So: The Data you need is the primary Email + all Alias in the AD in one field. If you enable the AD, you could use a powershell script and pump this data into a new field like "number". Then you could extract this field "number" on sfos as an email field.

bottom line, SFOS does not have the option to fetch primary email + alias and build this itself. Instead you need to build it in a AD server.

https://learn.microsoft.com/de-de/system-center/scsm/ad-ds-attribs?view=sc-sm-2022 Those are all attributes fields you have in a AD. So you could use one of those and build your needed emails.
