Sophos XGS 116 - SSD Slot type?

Hi all,

I have a XGS 116 with an ADATA IM2S313-064GDA 64GB SSD which is, according to the tech specs, an M.2 SATA III interface card. As the TBW are only at 17TB right now (2 years use) but the "Percentage Used Performance Indicator" says 178, we may need to replace the SSD very soon.

The question is, what type of M.2 port is on the board? 2242 is the current card but are there also mounting point for a 2280 as well?

Besides the 2242 or 2280 question, can I use any brand and model that suits the M.2 SATA III specs?

  • Hello Vivek,

not exactly the answer I am looking for. This is only a list of possible additional components. The SSD is definitely replaceable part as well as the RAM and Wifi modules (if applicable). I had an old SG115w and opened the device. You can see RAM, SSD and Wifi module here. Why the heck is this secured with a kind of "paint"? Is this the same in an XGS appliance? I do not want to open just to verify this.

Also there is a difference in the SSD itself. The SG have same ADATA SSD but MLC instead of TLC  as in the XGS. MLC is more durable as TLC flash types. So what is the official solution to an desktop XGS appliance if the SSD dies? Buy a new appliance is not an option.
