How do I update Firefox outside of sandboxie?

In the past, I had to run Firefox outside of Sandboxie to get it to update to the latest version correctly.  I did so by changing the setting to not force FF in the sandbox.  Now, removing that setting doesn't keep FF from running in a box.  What do you suggest?

  • Hey Barb,

I got FF updated and I do all of the tips.  I still lose bookmarks when I clear the Sandbox.  Again, I've had some luck restoring all the mozilla files back to the drive from the sandbox, but I shouldn't have to do that.

  • Hi Scott,

My previous response covers how to allow Firefox to save bookmarks to the host when sandboxed.

Please take a look at the entry and make any changes you need.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks!

    Windows Defender, latest version

When I clear the sandbox, I lose saved bookmarks.

I only use the default sandbox.

  • Hi Scott,

Where is Firefox installed on the host (what's the exact path)?
The template you have (which looks correct) should point to %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\favicons.sqlite

Any chance yours is installed elsewhere?
Does the issue follow you to the other Sandbox, or to a new one with default settings (plus the bookmarks template) ?

  • It auto installed here: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

I only use the default sandbox and only for my browser.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Scott,

Please, create a new Sandbox with default settings, add the bookmarks template only, then run Firefox in it and see if the bookmarks remain after deleting the contents.

Also, please ensure your Firefox profile is located under  %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles...\favicons.sqlite

    Thanks!
