Chrome will not open additional web-pages after 4 from Outlook 2106 links

I have noticed this happening and today I got a call from a client that tried to open a Link from a email in Outlook 2016

If I have Chrome open and I have my usual 4 website open, if I get an email (I use Outlook) and click on a link it will not open in chrome
I open the new Microsoft Edge Chrome and declared it default
I do not have the problem, I'm not sure if this is a Chrome problem or Sandboxie 5.31.2

Please advise if I forgot anything

  • Hi BilleBarrett,

What is the default web browser of your OS? If it is not Chrome, please set it to Chrome and re-test.

If the problems persist, include the missing info  (as per the guidelines)

    Repro steps
Exact Urls involved (does the issue go away if you close said urls?)
    Any AV involved?
Does the issue follow you to a new Sandbox?

    Thanks!

  • When this happens it does not matter what URL I click on, when I open Chrome I always open 4 sites, 2 for my Reomte Desktop service, Facebook, and Sandboxie forum
From within Chrome (Sadnboxed) I can open other site, I just can pass the info from OUtlook to Chrome :-(

I'm sorry, I did terminate Google Chrome and then restart it with just one website open, I was able to click on links in Outlook and they show up in the Sandboxie Chrome opened
I just run Windows defender, but it has never been a problem

I really think it may be a chrome problem, but I can prove it.
I am going to try and replicate it on another computer, but I do not have Office installed on my other 2 work computers

  • Hi BilleBarrett,

I'll wait for your update to see if you can replicate the issue,  and the rest of the info as needed.

  • I was able to repeat it again and again, Again I think this maybe a Chrome problem, as it works in Microsoft's new Edge Chromium <just need setting>

    1. Set Google Chrome as default browser
    2. open Chrome (it is in Sandboxie)
    a. Deskroll Dashboard open and logged in
    b. Solarwinds Dashboard open and logged in
    c. Facebook Remote Desktop service opened
    d. Sandboxie Forum logged into
Clicked on the View online link from Barb@Sophos
noticed an additional Chrome.exe appeared in the Sandboxie Control Program Name windows but it did not open on Chrome
    My Sandboxie ini file

  • Hi BilleBarrett,

I cannot repro the behavior (the only difference is that I am not logged in to the RDP sites, but that should not affect the behavior as far as I can tell).

Can you test if launching Chrome does indeed open it Sandboxed ,even outside Outlook?
Does Chrome work fine outside Sandboxie when you try the same setup?

    Additional test:

Please remove the forced program Chrome from your default sandbox.
Then, create a new Sandbox with default settings (don't manually add any templates).
Add the force program for Chrome only
    Re-test opening links via Outlook.

Let me know the outcome please.

    Thanks!

  • AT this point Microsoft Chromium is work in the Sandbox, just have to setup it outside of the Sandbox,
Not sure what is going on with Chrome but I can play with it, I believe some of the protections feature that Google has instituted is the problem

I see the URLs attempting to open in Sandboxie and then get terminated, see no reason for Sandboxie to do that

I'm happy with Microsoft Chromium just seed to have Sandboxie like setups as IE and Chrome
    Thank for listening

    Bill

  • Hi BilleBarrett,

Understood, glad MS Chromium is working fine for you.
If  at some point you want to continue troubleshooting Chrome, please see my previous response for next steps and we'll take it from there.

  • I will continue, since I can't make the setting on the MS Chrome, like my Google Chrome unless you guys will setup a template for it

I have to keep closing it and opening it outside Sandboxie to setup link in the taskar and insert other stuff :-(

  • Hi BilleBarrett,

In order to help you with your Chrome issues, I need you to address my previous response:

For your convenience, here are the steps for you to complete:

MS Chrome is not a supported browser, so you can try creating your own templates based on the ones from Chrome, or you may wait until another user posts theirs.
To find current templates, right-click on your Sandbox --> Sandbox settings --> Applications ---> Web Browser
Select Google Chrome to see all the available templates, highlight any of them --> View code to see what's in them.

  • Hi BilleBarrett,

This is a little off topic but since you’re a chrome user I think you have the right to know. Google has been sleazy on several occasions despite them saying “Do no evil”. Here’s a recent report a few days go: Google is the biggest snoop of all on your computer or cell phone

I confronted them on another issue with their Google Voice when they intentionally broke their own plugin to stop working in Firefox. Their solution was to use Chrome. This went on for little over 2 weeks and then they fixed it again. They argued with me that it was not a manipulation to force people to switch, that it was indeed a technical issue.

Apparently, their little stunt didn’t have the effect they were hoping for because many went back to Firefox. Several days later, they permanently broke the plugin and said Firefox wasn’t compatible anymore.

After some extensive troubleshooting, I confronted them again and said the only reason it’s not companionable is because you intentionally disabled the speakers in your code. (One can make calls and people can hear you but you can’t hear them.) So I asked, there’s no incompatibility issue so why are you lying to the public? No answer – dead silence. I caught them with their pants down and they were embarrassed about it. They didn’t want users to use Firefox because Firefox restricts a lot of their spying. Big Data is big money and that’s all they care about.

If you really want to stay Chromium-based, Comodo Dragon or Opera would be a far safer choice than Chrome. Both work well in a sandbox. I thought you had the right to know.

  • I am thinking the something, everything with Sandboxie was functioning great and then Chrome did an update to 74.x.x.x and then 75.x.x.x that is when it went south

I really don't think it is Sandboxie, but I do not have the time to test, I have to many clients on my remote service to do it

I am trying to see if I can find a older copy of Google Chrome to test this.
I also use Vivaldi I may try it
