I tried to check the preferences and get the message "configuration daemon not running" repeatedly.

I encountered a problem, when I logged on this morning, There was a message about sophos not running. I tried to check the preferences and get the message "configuration daemon not running" repeatedly.

I tried:

1) restart computer

2) restart after reset pram

3) download fresh uninstall tool and uninstall sophos; then download current version and re-install  "Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition" (two cycles of these)

on first check the new version appeared (9.5.2),

when I hit Open Preferences I still get above error message (daemon not running), and now when I re-check the version is listed as "UNKNOWN"

I'm assuming that Sophos is dead again on my MacBook Pro (OS10.9.5)

  • Interesting. Mine stopped about this date as well.  Have a look at my post as I put part of the crash dump file in there. Check to see if yours is the same.  Go to applications - utilities and open console. You may see lots of Sophos errors occurring constantly.

    cheers

  • Hi:

I use sophos home and my sophos icon also disappeared from the menu bar soon after updating. Now when I try to use the help menu I get a message saying "Configuration daemon not running. This is on an iMac.

My MacBook Pro is running sophos just fine. It is using version 9.5.2. I can't get the version number off the sophos running on the iMac, because it isn't running.

Any help I can get is very appreciated.

  • I sort of solved it but it isn't permanent.

When I looked at SophosConfigD crash report in Console application (in utilities) I see a thread crashing as below.

So what I did was fire up Winclone (as I have a bootcamp partition) and started winclone which I guess touches the MBR, The errors stop. onsidering I was getting crashes  every 10 secs on the system this was positive.

So Sophos is now running fine.  However, if I restart the mac Sophos starts crashing again.

So for me, it has something to do with Sophos not liking the partition table by the looks of it.

Check you console and Sophos crash reports to see if this is the same issue.

  • I found the issue for me but don't have a fix.

If I unmount BOOTCAMP partition Sophos runs fine.   If I remount BOOTCAMP partition Sophos starts faulting again. :(

  • About 2 weeks ago, I was detected as having Mal/Phis-A on my MacBook Pro. I ran the scheduled Sophos scan and also manually ran it and it couldn't get it removed ~ as the log said "issue deleting threat". So I talked to Apple and they suggested I upgrade my OS. I upgrade to Mountain Lion (yes I know it is old) and ran Sophos manually ~ when I ran manually it did not detect the Malware but some files with issues. I manually deleted the files with issues and ran verify/repair disk and have been trying to schedule a scan (before I log into my bank account) and it doesn't work.

Now Getting the "configuration daemon not running" and Proxy Exception errors in the log file

and this is what shows up when I click about Sophos and the Update Now only works when I do it manually
