I tried to check the preferences and get the message "configuration daemon not running" repeatedly.

I encountered a problem, when I logged on this morning, There was a message about sophos not running. I tried to check the preferences and get the message "configuration daemon not running" repeatedly.

I tried:

1) restart computer

2) restart after reset pram

3) download fresh uninstall tool and uninstall sophos; then download current version and re-install  "Sophos Anti-Virus Home Edition" (two cycles of these)

on first check the new version appeared (9.5.2),

when I hit Open Preferences I still get above error message (daemon not running), and now when I re-check the version is listed as "UNKNOWN"

I'm assuming that Sophos is dead again on my MacBook Pro (OS10.9.5)

    Interesting. Mine stopped about this date as well.  Have a look at my post as I put part of the crash dump file in there. Check to see if yours is the same.  Go to applications - utilities and open console. You may see lots of Sophos errors occurring constantly.
