Upgrade Memory UTM220

UTM 220 Rev5 (white box) ships with 2 x 1GB ram (DDR3 240-pin DIMM PC-10600) (see exact picture of ram used in this unit)

You will need to purchase 2 x 2GB DDR3 240-pin DIMM PC-10600 to upgrade to 4GB

It is not possible to upgrade to 4GB or 8GB? The maximum limit is 2GB?

4Gb is the max limit on the hardware 220 boxes because it needs a 64bit kernel to use above 4gb which cannot be installed on the 220.

As I mentioned you need to buy 2 x 2GB sticks which gives you the 4gb max limit. This is more than enough for the 220.

The maximum amount of memory that can be used depends on the chipset of the mainboard in the UTM220. I am not sure about the exact maximum, but 4GB should be possible.

The ASG software is based on Linux and can address more than 4GB of RAM, regardless if you are using the 32bit or 64bit version of the kernel. Only MS Windows has such limitations.

Depends on how the kernel is compiled.... You can access more than 4 gigs in such an instance..but because if memory paging you loose performance.  If you want to use more than 3 gigs just use 64 bit.  I also just use 64 bit by default..even in sub 4 gig installs because later when you need more than 4 you want have to reinstall to use all 4 gigs and get maximum system performance

For those that are wondering I've found the UTM 220 Rev 5's are based on the NSA 3110 appliances. You can see the full specs at www.nexcom.com.

I believe the main limitation comes down to the CPU choice by Astaro. Hence why the boxes are running with only an 800Mhz FSB while the board can support better.

and how did you come about this exactly?  just because the specs are similar doesn't mean it's the same hardware..[:)]

The 220 UTM uses a Celeron Dual Core (2.2 GHz) which fits with that appliance you mentioned.
