Has anyone tried installing XG on ASG 110/120 version 4?

I did before, but after some time, an hour or so running, cpu utilization will increase to 99%. By then, all internet traffic will stop. I went to check running services, and when i restart web proxy service, usage will drop to 3% and climb up again after some time. Is this machine not capable of the sfos?

  • I'm running XG on a UTM 120 rev. 5 without any issues other than the interfaces is in reverse order.

  • Yes,  aware of the reverse nic issue. Not a problem.

Do you know what's the difference between v4 and v5?

How many users are using at the same time? Don't you have cpu utilization issues?

  • Officially only SG model are supported. Utm are old Astaro/Sophos models and you can try to use them installing the SW version of XG.

Version 4 and 5 have different amount of RAM and Cpu model.

  • Yeah, it's old. Since it's for home,  I thought it should be good enough.  The ram I can upgrade.  But I don't know how the processor is different.  My existing uses dual core atom 1.6.  Is this not yet enough for xg home use?

  • Jason,

Did you have the cpu issue even after the XG installation with no rule?

I am using a old dc2500cc Intel MB with an Atom Dual core 1.86 with 20 rules and IPS applied in some of them with no issue.

Check your config by disabling IPS on all rules and see if the cpu usage goes down.

  • After installation, it was orange ever since.  I started using it for over a week, without problems.  All of a sudden, a week after, cpu utilization started going up.  Can't remember if I've changed anything, as I was playing with it.  I basically have 2 rules only.

After restarting web proxy, utilization goes down immediately.

I'm using web filtering, as that is my main goal.  Is web proxy = web filtering?

  • There is 2GB memory and a Intel atom 1.66GHz N450 cpu in my rev. 5..

Mine is only using 5~10% cpu. But again there's only two users on the box, 2 IPSec tunnels, webfilter and IPS is enabled on the LAN zone

  • I guess I'll reinstall again and see if there are other causes.  For now, I've downgraded to 9.3, but I like the XG better.
