Can't restore backup. Insufficient space SG115 -> XGS116

Just for other to information!

Firewall migration from SG115 (SFOS 20.0.0 GA-Build222) to XGS116 (SFOS 20.0.2 MR-2-Build378) is not possible exported backupfile from SG115 with a sice of 19,0 MB (19.963.264 Bytes)
Error message on import backup to XGS116 "Can't restore backup. Insufficient space."
After information from Sophos support "thats a known problem" we make downgrade XGS116 to SFOS20.0.0
Migration succesfull!

  • I am wondering, why your backup is that big.
    But this should not be an known issue in the first place.
    Looking into your support case, it does not look like a known issue.

    We actually have a known issue about the Backups:

    https://docs.sophos.com/support/kil/index.html

    NC-67688 With a workaround. You could double check, if those files are in your SG Firewall and remove them.

  • Hello,

    In addition to Tony's reply. You may also clean the Synchronized Application Control from System -> Sophos Central.

    Once this is cleaned up, you may take backup and see the size of the backup.

  • Hello Tony, thanks for that. That was the first migration with such a big backupfile. The soltuin for us was to setup the new XGS116 with SFOS20.0
    That old NC maybe will be an other workaround but when firewall will be dead, backupfiles can't be shrinked.

    Maybe it would be better if such crasy sizes happend, there should be a notification to check this issue.

    My migration was successfully, I just post here for all other maybe with the same error message because I don`t find any entry about that here.
