Sophos Pop-ups all over the firewall

Hi,

As of last months I notice that on most Tabs and with many options Sophos is now showing pop-ups. I see this with VPN settings, NAT rules, Authentiations etc.

Most of these Pop-ups cover information I need, options I want to select and it makes working with the firewalls very annoying. It actually never helps me with anything.

Is there a way to turn this off?

Looking forward,

Niels

  • Administration - Admin Settings - Scroll down. Sophos assistant.
But could you give us some examples so we can improve the experience?

  • I rather have it completely turned off

  • I turned the assistant off, thanks for that. But unfortunately this does not change anything.

Pop-ups are still there and also the assistant is still at the bottom. The assistant at the bottom is not an actual problem, it's ignorable but the popups are not.

  • So those popup are not helpful for you in this format? Because at that stage you did not have filled anything in.
As said above, you can disable this, but we want to improve the experience going forward.

  • The pop-ups do not add anything at all, especially when you have used an option 2 times its nothing more than clutter.

Ofcourse the intention is good but having this in my face on every option and configuration with essentially useless information only adds to annoyance.

Giving people a choice to enable this would be extremely nice, the rate on which the popups come up is just disturbing by now. I see the same information for months now.

So, to be honest, it is not usefull at all. Much better to add those messages in the Assistant and keep my workspace clear and neat. Then people can choose to look at it, or most likely, not.

  • The point is, we see from telemetry people configure a Ipsec tunnel "once" at leave it. Then after 2 years they revisit or create a new one.
As a Partner / "power user" this is true so you can disable it. But customer actually using it quite frequently. For example NAT or SSLVPN wizard.

  • Hello  ,
Thanks for the feedback. The smart tip is not displaying where it should, and we'll address it as soon as possible.

As  mentioned, these smart tips are very useful for first-time users or people that set and forget, and need to change the configuration of their firewall from time to time. I understand that for partners and people like you, these might be a little in the way.

We are looking at ways to prevent the smart tips to show all the time so that they are still helpful and not in your way.

    Hope that helps,
    Rémi

  • Hi   ,
The changes will be reflected after you do a hard refresh of your page. If not, please let me know.

The only issue with you disabling the Sophos Assistant is that you won't be able to see critical messages we might display on the firewall in case of an incident, or announcements of new features in maintenance releases and subsequent versions.

  • Hi Remi,

Thanks for your reply, indeed the messages are gone. I needed to relog into the firewall or maybe I was impatient Slight smile

Looking forward to Sophos changing this is a more convenient presentation.

The Sophos assistant itself is not in the way, I can ignore this without problems. Maybe it is a good idea to show the pop-up messages in the Assistant, I can image that first time users will use the assistent if the get lost or need some more information.

    Kind regards,

    Niels
