Hello everyone,

I am just getting started with sophos firewalls and i could use some advice.

I got an old sg210 from work hoping to play around with it and design my own lab at home.

i would like to install an xg image on it. tried with an usb the bare metal vrsion and failed.

i took the ssd out and formated, and used iso to usb to install the image. is not doing anything.

Can someone explain me how to install that. plase explain me like im stupid. still got the ssd out.

    Try with a different disk and how much memory does the sg210 have?

    So basically you need to decide where to go. 

    If you want to use the Hardware Appliance (HW image) this appliance will be SG with SFOS. You can migrate the UTM License but you cannot do SFOS XG Home. So to speak you will not have a license beside the base license, which includes firewalling, NAT, VPN and SD-WAN. 

    If you want to install SFOS for Home (full license), you need to install SFOS software. So you need the software installer: SW. 
    This will install the software of SFOS as a bare metal installation - Means you can install the XG home as well as SFOS home comes with an own serial number.

    I managed to deploy it as a vm, and bridged it to gns3.

    The only bad thing is im loosing link speed.

    I took the ssd from an old laptop and it worked.

    I can confirm that that indeed replacing the disk worked.
