When I try to download Unreal Engine 5 through Epic Games it gets frozen at 21%

Whenever I try to download Unreal Engine 5 through the Epic Games launcher it gets stuck at 21% saying there is a network error. I am currently on Epic Games support but I'm 90% sure this is something with our firewall. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

~Thanks, Yasha

  • Do you see any kind of errors in the log viewer? Does it work, if you bypass the firewall directly to the modem?

  • Haven't done that yet, but I changed some setting son the Epic Games Launcher and now I'm getting the error that it couldn't download patch data and the error code IS-DL01

  • I bypassed the firewall and the download is working now.

  • Hello

Epic Games does not like SSL Inspection or Web Proxy.

If DPI Engine and SSL Inspection is in use. Please exclude the domains for EpicGames and UnrealEngine from the Exclusion List.

    Web -> Exceptions -> Add exception -> Give it a Name = Manual_List

Add the RegEx Entry with exact syntax:

    ^([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?unrealengine\.com/?

    ^([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?epicgames\.com/?

Skip the selected checks or actions:

    HTTPS decryption
    HTTPS certificate validation
    Malware and content scanning
    Zero-day protection
    Policy checks

Enable the Rule and Restart EpicGames Launcher - Now it should work.

    Best regards

    Sig.

  • I suspect that the download is broken into multiple chunks that get downloaded separately.  There are many ways this can be done, one of which is called a Range Request.  The XG does not support range request because they are partial file downloads that cannot be virus scanned.  In the activity log for web filter are there any status code 416?

If this still occurring the Exception listed should resolve it.

I would be curious if the setting here would also fix it.  Please let us know if it does.
