Virtualized Sophos XG Home not pulling DHCP IP from ISP.

Hello All,

I've been trying to get Sophos XG home working on my network for a few days now.  For one reason or another I am not able to get it to pull a DHCP IP from my ISP.

  • Reset to factory config half a dozen times or more
  • Copy IP settings from previous router to Sophos XG
  • Tried using console access to set IP
  • Tried using GUI access to set IP
  • Other routers with different MACS pull in DHCP just fine, so not my router cache.
  • One time, randomly, I believe I was able to get it to psuedo pull in DHCP, but could not ping out.
  • I am rebooting the modem between tries
  • I have rebooted both Sophos and my Hypervisor.

I can access the GUI on my LAN, but I'm only able to access the basic settings page, as my serial number doesn't work (i'm assuming because no internet access).  I've followed the getting started video, but it doesn't seem to apply wholly to my setup as I am virtualizing.   I will try and get some screenshots posted shortly.

Any and all help is appreciated.  Thanks! :)

Is there a command I can run in console or over SSH to force it to run DHCP?

  • Hi

When you plug the ISP cable to the WAN interface, please try login to console and execute the command- system diagnostics show sysmsg and system diagnostics show syslog and check if you are getting any entry for WAN interface.

Could you please try to assign IP from the same DHCP subnet to the WAN interface through CLI and check?

If GUI access is not available, could you please execute the command system appliance_access enable and try to access GUI.

    Regards,

  • So at this point I'm not for sure if this is going to work.  I'm sure that I am the issue, but I just can't wrap my head around what is happening.

This was the initial setup I had:

I was unable to login, unless I changed my computer to the same subnet as the WAN port on Sophos (portB according to the basic settings gui).  So I thought possibly I needed to change around the LAN and WAN ports on the VM, so I did that:

Except when I hit basic settings this time, the WAN port had switched to PortA. No matter what I do, I'm not able to access the device using the LAN port it's set to at the time, even if I'm on the same subnet.

Can you give more detail on how to run the commands you are requesting?  I am SSH'd in and I hit "3 - SFM Management" and then "5-Advanced Shell" and I get this error:

If I go back to the Main Menu and try "4 - SFM console" I get this error:

I might be able to get farther if I can work out how to run the commands you are requesting.  Can you please elaborate?  Thanks! :)
