Update process and alerts

A couple items here around updates.

1. UTM 9 gave us the ability to send alerts to email recipients when there were updates available for firmware or patterns. (Or emails upon installation of patterns.) I haven't found something similar in XG where it will send an email that an update is either available or installed.

2. UTM 9 Pattern updates occurred usually daily for some component. XG I haven't seen updates for days. Is this normal? My up2date.log shows "200" responses to update checks. I just find it odd that one platform has more frequent pattern updates than another. Or is there some updates that are not surfaced to the user that are still occurring in the system?

    Hi Jonathan,

    Thanks for choosing Sophos.

    XG will not shoot an notification Email for Pattern & Firmware updates. Instead it will notify you on the dashboard when you login to GUI.

    In XG, Firmware and Pattern update can be monitored under u2d.log file. 

    Yes, major updates with XG will come with Firmware upgrade there will not be frequent pattern updates in XG.

    Hi Sachin,

    As you probably well know, Sophos Labs deals with up to 4 million new infections/attacks and if needs will create pattern updates for them on the fly and the UTM will regularly get new pattern updates daily or multiple times a day.

    So does this mean that my and my customer's XG appliances may not be protected from new attacks and malicious infections for X period of time which is more than a day or otherwise?

    Hi Emile,

    The Pattern Update to IPS and Application signatures will be updated up to date. 

    What I meant is major updates will be done along with Firmware, but  security and IPS & Application Signature Pattern updates will always be up to date.
