App control is blocking Whatsapp

I have applied a policy with app control (whatsapp denied). Later, I changed the policy to approve WhatsApp, but Sophos mobile control continues blocking the application. In short, once the app control policy is applied, there is no way to deactivate it. It only happens to me with certain applications. Thank you.

  • Hi  ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Sophos Community forum.

Are you using a Central-managed Sophos Mobile? Can you please share screenshots of the detection?

  • Hi,

I have two different policies, called General and Prueba. General pretends to block some apps from Google Play, while Prueba doesn't block anything. You can see the configuration of both of them in the following screenshots:

When enrolling a new device, I have applied the policy General, thus blocking some applications, WhatsApp among them. Then, I wanted to unblock and therefore allow these applications, so I applied the policy Prueba. When doing that, app control keeps saying that certain applications are still blocked.

And I cannot install WhatsApp in any way.

    Thank you.

  • Hi  ,

There’s an ongoing issue wherein once a policy has been assigned and an app listed via "App Control" has been blocked, new policies can't revert or delete that app restriction. Our development team is currently investigating this. We'll post another update on this thread once available.

    Thank you.

    UPDATE:

The issue should be fixed in the new version. Kindly perform the following steps once the new version is installed:

    1. Update the Sophos Mobile Control app on the mobile devices (this is done automatically but requires some days. Users can also manually open the Google Play Store and update the app there)
    2. Assign a policy that has the app list configured to block the apps.
    3. Perform a synchronization with the Sophos Mobile Control app.
    4. Change the policy again to a policy with the app not being blocked.
    5. Synchronize the Sophos Mobile Control app again.

Feel free to let me know if you have further questions.

  • Hello,

I have installed Sophos Mobile Control version 9.7.10267 form January 18th on my mobile device. I followed your steps, but App Control is still blocking the apps.

  • Hi  ,

If you've had multiple profile changes on the previous version, it might be necessary to repeat the steps until all instances of blockage are removed.

I'll also reach out to you via private message to get additional details. Thank you.
