Email Security - Mailboxes dealing wit hmissed addresses

This is especially important with new client setups.

Missing email for no reason when queuing the dropped email would be extremely simple. If we could click on the valid emails to create a mailbox

and have them delivered to the new mailbox would solve the problem and register the account as a mailbox so SOPHOS gets their fee.

We need a report that lists the email addresses that SOPHOS did not send to our email server?

    1. I want to know what email addresses, that are not in the SOPHOS mailbox list, have email being sent to them.
  1. SOPHOS just throws them out and they might be important.
    1. I would like a list so that I can take action if required.
  1. With this information I can either add them to SOPHOS mailbox list or determine that it is indeed malicious.
    1. I think some people might have aliases that have not yet been entered into SOPHOS mailboxes list.
    2. I think some alerts or notification emails might be sent to an email address that is not yet been entered into SOPHOS mailboxes list.
    3. Or maybe send all non listed addresses a single email account. Then that account would have all email sent to the mailboxes, not listed in the SOPHOS Mailbox list. Once we know that we can add them to the SOPHOS Mailbox list.

  • Hello Dan,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

This would be a Feature Request; I'd recommend you reach out to your Account Manager, Sales Engineer, or Sales Representative so that they can enter this request into our system.

As you saw in your other thread Sophos Email PM is quite active in the forum, so they will most likely further comment on your other post about upcoming email enhancements related to your request, in any case I suggest you to reach out to your Account Manager to add this as a Feature Request.

    Regards,

  • You should consider to sync your Mailboxes from a system of your choice. If you have a not created Email Mail address, CEMA is using that fact as a recipient verification.

By syncing all your mailboxes, you actually have, you can be sure, that all emails, which can be used, will be accepted.

  • Very nicely put LuCar Toni and I just had an internal demonstration of the upcoming Google Directory synchronization which is due out in a couple months. That will fill the gap for our Google Workspace customers. Stay tuned, exciting things continue to come from our product development team!!

  • Well yes, we have done that and it does help. But you missed the point. those steps do not resolve the issue. I need to know what email addresses are being sent to and not being delivered. If one of our executive has an alias that gets email twice a year I want to know that it was not delivered. I am more concerned about new client setups then I am about existing clients. We have not set up a new client yet that did not tell us that they are not getting an important email and we then add that address to SOPHOS and then they get the new email all past email to that address is lost. I would greatly prefer to tell the client about missing email than to have them tell me about how bad this new sophos service that I recommended is. When we find an email that should be added to the mailboxes list we can add it before it is an issue. Then the client says wow you really found us the perfect product it is great. That is why it is an importanta issue.

A simple secondary Quarantine or a Quarantine category with a button to create a new mailbox for that quarantined email address.

  • Dan, I understand what you are saying and we are looking for ways to improve this area. Also realize that in the last 7 days there were over 10M messages that met that criteria. Extrapolate that out two weeks, a month and you can see the issue with storing those messages, if we accept them and then attempt to deliver them the NDR's would also cause issues. How many of these are spammers doing directory harvest. As mentioned this is a method of recipient validation to protect customers. How many phone calls are misdialed? You never know if someone were calling your number but put in a wrong number. Not an easy problem to solve and maintain scale and cost structure. It is a good discussion topic and we are always considering new reports that benefit customers. We'll discuss this further internally and plan accordingly. I would strongly suggest you contact your Sales team and have them open a Feature Request so that we can document internally the investigation and analysis of this request.
