SMTPD not running properly since firmware update

since firmware update to 9.400-9 i have had some issues with the SMTPD not running (6 alerts since update) which means mail doesn't even come into the UTM logs.

I have rebooted and a flurry of mails come in, anyone else had issues?

  • I don't use email, I have everything disabled but I do have the UTM email me issues. Every hour this happens. Started yesterday.

Smtp daemon not running - restarted

  • Yeah I am getting the same since upgrading our UTM's to 9.400-9.

Have tried enabling and disabling SMTP global to no avail.

  • I have the same Problem with the Virtual UTM since the Upgrade 9.400-9. The different thing is that I am running an Active/Passive Cluster.
If i turn the Cluster off , SMTP works again. (But  the messages don’t stop coming in.)

I also try a single new fresh install, same problem.

  • Disabling the SMTP Proxy dont resolvs the problem with sended msgs abaut SMTPD not running...

  • past the initial errors i haven't had any more issues, this is a test device for me so not running HA or anything else

  • Yes, I've been having this problem since Friday (8 April). If I turn off the SMTP Proxy, mail starts flowing (in both directions). Turn it back  on and silence.

The SMTP Log does not even show me turning it off and on:

Turning Sandstorm off didn't make a difference.

(It is now 15 hours since these log entries).

    James.

I'll turn it back on and reboot the system.

  • Rebooted system, and after a while turned SMTP Proxy on again. Log is:

  • Hey,

we had the same error, after i killed the smtpd prozess and start the smtpd prozess all works fine ;-)

  • Daniel, you mean you just Disabled/Enabled the SMTP proxy from the 'Global' tab of Email Protection/SMTP?

    This doesn't work for me.

Of did you do it by ssh-ing in?

  • you must use the ssh console with the loginuser and root.

i had used the kill -9 command
