Ubuntu laptop and Sophos Central

hi,

We have bought licenses for our org for Sophos Central. We have a mix of Windows, Mac and Ubuntu laptops and we would want to deploy the agent on all. From my understanding of the Central dashboard, Windows and Mac can be managed with the "Endpoint protection" > "Protect Devices" > "Download X installer" where X is Windows or MacOS. So we are installing these agents and they seem to work fine.

Since I do not see an entry for linux or Ubuntu there, I searched around and saw https://community.sophos.com/products/sophos-cloud/f/sophos-central/90919/does-sophos-central-compatible-with-ubuntu-16-04-2-lts

Does it mean for each Ubuntu laptop(mostly 14.04) we will need to install a "server" agent and run it? Please advise. The other option our vendor is suggesting is to manually do a standalone installation like the one given in https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/14378  I assume if we do that our Central console will not recognize the device in its dashboard - is that correct?

Thanks,

Vikram

  • Hi Vikram,

Linux server can be managed from Sophos Central, but a stand alone/freeware cannot be managed. When you log into Sophos Central > click on Protect Devices > under the Server Protection, you can find the Linux Server Installation, as shown in the image below.
