Sophos System Protection Service startup type got set "Manual" and cannot change it back to Automatic

Sophos System Protection Service startup type got set "Manual" and get Access is denied when I try to change it to Automatic

My domain login is member of the Administrators group on the local machine. However, impossible for me to stop and/or change the startup type of this service: getting "Access is denied." when clicking Apply.

Also, impossible for me to access the folder "C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Endpoint Defense", it says 

Any ideas about what could be wrong?

    Thank you for reaching out to the Sophos Community.

    As Bruce mentioned, you'll need to turn off Tamper Protection to interact with Sophos' services. If you're using the SEC Managed version of Sophos Anti-Virus, you may need to add your user account to the "SophosAdministrator" group locally, in addition to disabling Tamper Protection. 

    Let me know if any updates have been installed recently or if a restart helps return the service to normal.

  • Kushal, yes, I got multiple updates by months. Hard to say for me which could be concerned because the issue about the service set to Manual is present since some weeks now. But with your help and Bruce, I have been able to restart the machine with a service that get back on track automatically.
