Turn off Notifications or have control over what notifications I get.

I have 1447 notifications currently solely because I have joined the sub forum just so I can ask questions!

I can imagine that some others have an exponential amount more for each sub forum.

I just want control over the notifications for the replies on posts I've made/interacted with, new posts etc. But I get a notification for Every. Single. Action. on the forums i've joined.

I can't even tell if my posts have been interacted with unless I laboriously trawl through to find them!

  • Hi Emile,

You can manage these settings if you click your profile picture in the top right corner and select "settings."

On the settings page, click 'notifications' to adjust what you are notified for.

In the above example I have chosen to only get notifications for posts I am subscribed to, which should prevent me from getting notifications for every new thread that is created in forums I am subscribed too.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions

  • It was so faint, I barely even registered it existed.

    Thanks!
  • I've just realised this is not the solution, by applying to be in the group you are automatically subscribed to EVERY post made and therefore changing these settings is either get ALL notifications or get NONE. The forum can't differentiate between subscribing to the post because i'm part of the group or subscribing to the post because i've commented/replied to this.

I turned all notifications off to varying degrees and I still get every notification known to man. So I still can't tell when someone has replied to a thread that i've commented on or my own thread because it disappears into the chaff of all the the others.

    Solution rejected.
  • Same boat here. I have over 3100 notifications pending (most were chinese spam) but even turning it off, I still get notifications. I have email enabled for a few specific things but in the months I've been registered, I saw a couple emails earlier this week responding to threads I've never read then nothing again.
  • I think I may have found a solution which I'm just testing now, there is a cog next to the drop downs for the dates and discussion filtering and inside it is a "Turn Notifications for Forum off":

I'm just testing if my subscribed threads are notifying me rather than this button killing all my notifications from the forum. If it does, I can't select both Serra's and my own, but if Serra could modify her own post to include this if it works, then happy to close this.

  • Nope, turning off Forum Notifications means that even if you're subscribed/have commented/replied on a post, you will get nothing from that forum.

This feature needs to be improved, it can't be all or nothing.
  • Hi Emile,

We are hopefully doing some work to improve the notifications settings. We're intending to set it up so that you (everyone) can subscribe to groups but don't get alerts for all posts made to that group. However if you interact with the thread (start a thread, or post a message, or select to be notified about updates to that particular one) then you do get subscribed. We also need to clear out the current settings so users are removed from all their current subscriptions - as they are subscribed to all threads and that's too much and causing the problem.

Thanks for your testing it's much appreciated!

    Best,
    Mark

  • Glad what I've found helped. From my perspective, the joining of the Group should not auto-subscribe you to everything, only to threads you've interacted with/subscribed to as you say.

Sounds easy, but my experience with phpBB and similar know's that it's not.
  • We have now improved the notifications so that everyone will receive less. We have removed the historical subscriptions and now if you interact with the thread (start a thread, or post a message, or select to be notified about updates to that particular one) then you do get subscribed.

  • That looks like that's done the trick! I only get notifications to posts I've either physically subscribed to or I've commented on. Thanks Mods/Admins/Chappos & Chappesses who dealt with it!
