Inquiry Regarding Installation of SOPHOS Antivirus on Manufacturing Machines with LAN Connectivity

We are a manufacturing company with a variety of machines such as FANUC, MAZAK, and others, all of which operate on a Windows interface.

We are considering the installation of SOPHOS antivirus software on these machines.

They are connected to our LAN and are also linked to our servers for the purpose of transferring programs.

Could anyone please confirm if it's feasible to install SOPHOS on these machines given their configuration?

  • Hi  ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Sophos Community.

If the servers responsible for transferring programs have access to the internet, it's possible to deploy an Update Cache and Message Relay on that system. Once this is set up, the server will allow the LAN devices to connect for updates, and to send messages to Sophos Central. In the local network, you'll need at least one(1) server OS with an active internet connection.

If you wish to discuss this further, I suggest getting in touch with a Regional Sales Engineer. I'll reach out to you via private message regarding this.

Additionally, you may also start a Sophos Free Trial and test it on your systems. Please keep in mind that you'll need to set up exclusions for the critical pieces of software running on your machines. Our Sales Engineers can also help you out in setting this up.

    Thank you.

  • Hi  ,

Following your recommendation, I attempted to install SOPHOS on one of our MAZAK Machines, which operates using the Windows 8 interface. However, we encountered a pop-up message stating, "Installation failed. Failed to download the installer." We have already verified that the internet connection is working correctly. Could you kindly provide guidance on the installation process?

  • Thank you for getting back to us. One of the reasons for this was that Win 8 OS is no longer supported within our product unless you have an extended support license subscription. If you have a Win 10 device that you can use for the testing, I would recommend using that instead of Win8 OS device.
