PureMessage - messages from "allowed sender" going into spam digest.

Emails from a particular allowed sender are going into spam digest with a spam score of 33.

*@allowedsender.com is in the allowed sender list but just one particular sender 's messages with that domain name are going into the digest. We have explicitly added that person's email address to the list but it's still happening. The only thing we can think of that the person's last name is Cialis.

I thought being on the allowed sender list meant email from these senders doesn't get scanned for spam.

  • Hi,

The cause is almost certainly that the 'From' address is being added to the 'Allow List' instead of the actual sender address.

To see the sender address in PureMessage you can select a message in quarantine, then select the 'View details' action - this will show the sender as the 'Envelope Sender', you will also be able to see the From address for comparison.

Generally, the From and sender address should be identical so you shouldn't meet this problem, though some senders choose to use different addresses. Obviously, a sender who continually changes their sender address is difficult to maintain in an allow list, though this behavior is generally limited to spammers who are in fact looking to evade block lists.
