Sophos Endpoint 10.6 blocking backup of system state

Hi there,

We use Symantec Backup Exec 2015 and this backs up our Windows 2012 R2 server perfectly well -  However since installing the standalone Sophos Endpoint 10.6 client, the backup always fails to back up the system state due to "access denied".

Ive tried turning the On Access Scanning off to no avail. Ive tried creating registry keys to pass credentials, ive added the user to domain admins, local admins, enterprise admins, but nothing seems to work. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the AV twice now. UAC and firewall have always been switched off too.

I appreciate that I am stuck between sophos and symantec backup exec on this, but it is definitely the antivirus which is causing my backups to fail.

the only option i have left is to uninstall the standalone client and install the Sophos Enterprise Management console and then deploy the endpoint to itself but i cant see why this will make any difference. Im really hoping someone has seen this before? hope you can help.

  • Morning,

Im shocked nobody has experienced this before - having said that we have lots of clients running Sophos Endpoint and Backup Exec 2012 /  15 and they havent had issues.

I eventually got through to sophos tech support and they got me to try turning off one thing at a time and then running the backup, and eventually the thing that fixed it was turning off "Behaviour Monitoring". No idea why this would cause issues with a fresh install of Active Directory set at 2012 R2 forest and domain functional level with only a coupe of basic GPOs but now all is working.

Hope this helps someone in future.
