Hardware Config

Hi, theboffin!

Here is the Information I have:
Minimum: Linux/Intel-compatible PC with 300 MHZ processor,
2 GB HDD, 2 PCI network adapters, CD-ROM drive (bootable), 64 MB RAM

So you are far above the minimal configuration.

don't know where you get your info form, but its wrong.. the min is 133, 32mb and 1.5gb.

I just wanted to know if it would kick ass on the system that i posted.  [;)]

I got this information out of the current astaro price list   [;)]

I was worried about the 40gb... as linux could only handle upto 38gb.

3 x *3*c905c NIC's

but I wish *I* had that configuration for my ASL installation  [;)]

In short: you won't run into any speed problems. Hardware config seems o.k. I personally think this is going to ROCK.  [;)]

There is currently no known limit concerning HDD-size, but I will check this and post the exact info here.

Cheers.. I wasn't too sure, as I normally use freebsd, and have little knowanything of linux  [:)]

Overkill, but what the hay... Enjoy!  Astaro should install just fine on the hard drive.  I just installed Mandrake 7.2 on a 45 Gig drive last week...

Na its not overkill.. because its gunna be a production server. for 2000 users.

Please, let us know how it work once in production with your 2000 users.  As a consultant, it will help me in my future recommendation !  Also, tell us what is enable in the firewall, exemple, proxy, vpn, and the like !

yeah I will do.. I have started playing with it on my test server.

Its gunna have SMTP, Firewall, Webmail and NAT.

If that's all you're doing, then that box is way overkill -- even for 2000 users.

Run everyone through a vpn, implement stateful inspection, and do some app proxying, and you might be able to see it break a sweat.

But for a packet filter?  Overkill.  That sort of hardware is appropriate for a database server, not a firewall.

Remember... idle cycles are wasted cycles.
