Create WLAN Bridge with AP6 420

Hi all,

I created a mesh network with AP6 420 APs. Works fine now.

I AP is not connected to LAN but to a seperate LAN network that should be bridged into the main LAN though WLAN mesh.

How to configure that?

Internet<->LAN<->AP1<->WLAN<->AP2<->same LAN segment.

Also described here: https://docs.sophos.com/central/customer/help/en-us/ManageYourProducts/Wireless/SSIDs/SSIDBasic/Mesh/index.html#mesh-netzwerktypen

Should it work when simply configure mesh?

Any hints?

Best Gernot

  • Good morning,
we have the same problem as described here.
Everything can be set up very easily in Sophos Central. We have three access points that use MESH. A master and two nodes were successfully created. Everything is green as long as the devices have cable access to the network and internet.
If the two node access points are separated from the switch and started via a PoE adapter, i.e. without a wired network, no MESH network is set up.
The devices are currently less than 2 meters apart.

I have read the tips here and honestly I am always surprised when it comes to Sophos Central.
Functions are offered and everything looks very simple in Central and you can configure everything very easily. But that's not the case. Problems arise and then you start searching in the forum and contacting the support team who speak really bad English. You will look in vain for German-speaking support for the DACH region. You then find answers that say, well, if you want to do that, you still have to configure a lot of things locally on the devices. But that wasn't mentioned at all beforehand! What's the point? Either the setup works completely in the Central or you just configure the devices locally.

Well, that doesn't belong here either, but dissatisfaction with the expensive components is growing.

We are trying to set up a stable MESH and hope that it will still work reliably with Sophos AP6 420 devices. Otherwise, plan B is to use devices from other manufacturers that provide a WLAN bridge without any problems and cost a fraction of the price at under 100 euros.

Perhaps someone else has found a solution, as no answer to this problem has been found here in the forum at the moment.

It would also be nice if you would get in touch here if you also have or had these problems with the AP6 series and MESH networks.

    Thank you!
