How to reset Sophos AP55 via console port without password?

Hello,

i have a Sophos AP55 at home and I do not have access to it. Even my data of the previous firewall is gone. How can I reset the AP via console port without knowing the password for openwrt login? Is there a method via the bootloader to delete the configuration storage?

  • Hey, To reset a Sophos AP55 access point via the console port without a password, you can follow these steps:

    1. Connect the console cable to the AP55 and to your computer.

    2. Open a terminal program on your computer, such as PuTTY or HyperTerminal.

    3. Set the terminal program to use a baud rate of 115200, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit.

    4. Power on the AP55.

    5. Press the Enter key on your keyboard to initiate the boot process.

    6. When the AP55 starts to boot, press the Esc key to enter the boot menu.

    7. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the option to reset the AP55 to factory defaults, and press Enter.

    8. Confirm that you want to reset the AP55 to factory defaults.

    9. The AP55 will now reset to factory defaults and reboot.

Please note that resetting the AP55 to factory defaults will erase all configurations and settings, so you will need to reconfigure the AP55 after resetting it.

Please also note that if the device is managed by sophos central or Sophos UTM, it would be important to check the device status and disconnect it from the management console before resetting it.

  • There is a slight change to this process now, it is:

    5. Mash the any key to stop the auto boot
    6. You'll then get a command line option
    7. Type reset
    8. It will reboot and reset, wait until you get the log in screen
    9. It is now factory defaulted
