  • Hi Everyone. Anyone have any clue why I cant get this going on a TINY PC that only allows UEFI. I have tried USB and CD Install. i tried on a dell optiplex as well that had different issues. the Tiny PC ran PFSense and others for years but need Sophos for LAB Purpose so I dont break anything at work.

The CD Loads, I select sophos and then the screen just sits at blank until the end of time, i left it hours.

I finally got it going on a Spare HP DL360 G9 but it has fans and is to loud sometimes.

    Any Suggestions?

  • Easiest way is to virtualize It, either with ESXi or Proxmox.

Sophos Firewall doesn't support boot over UEFI only, and It doesn't have a lot of support for new NIC's chipset.

If a post solves your question use the 'Verify Answer' button.

    Ryzen 5600U + I226-V (KVM) v21 GA @ Home

    Sophos ZTNA (KVM) @ Home

  • Sophos Home does not support UEFI yet. You would have to enable CSM mode in the BIOS if your motherboard supports it. But it probably still won't work.

(I have attempted an install the firewall on an HP Prodesk. Even with CSM enabled the firewall won't install, (I suspected the firewall didn't support the hardware)

You need to virtualize the SFOS firewall using Proxmox/ESXi/KVM on a Linux distro or XEN, to get SFOS to work on UEFI bioses.

If you're ready to virtualize it, look up the video on Youtube from Sophos employee Christian Lempa, called

"Protect your home network! // Sophos XG Firewall on Proxmox Walkthrough"

He does a full installation of Sophos on Proxmox which is also free. For security I recommend installing a desktop environment on Proxmox and only allowing logons/administration of the VM from the host PC (localhost: 127.0.0.1)

  • Thank you for the info. would be nice if they mentioned it somewhere and at this rate this product will be phased out when everything is EFI only. I have a device for this purpose and didn't want to virtualize. I prefer it to be a single device as I change my virtual setup all the time. Thank you for the information and you have a Great Day/Weekend

  • If you need to run the firewall bare metal, look into one of the fanless Qotom firewall devices on Amazon/Ali express that use the Intel i211 network chipset.

Or even a used Sophos SG/XG firewall appliance off eBay such as the SG/XG 125/135
