Wifi to authenticate with local user database without captive portal?

We have just set up an XG 210 with 4 APs.

The next step that we wanted to try was to setup an SSID to be able to authenticate with local users,

but, we have only seen the option to set it up through the captive portal.

Is it possible to set it up so that the Wifi user enters the username and password when connecting to the SSID without having to be redirected to the captive portal?

Hi,

Good question.

Yes it is possible but the prerequisites are:

Sophos Firewall with Wireless Protection

Sophos AP (either an AP10, AP15, AP30, AP50, AP55/c, AP100/c/x)

Windows Server 2008 R2

Radius Server

But, we wanted to configure this option without having to use any external servers.. No ADs, no Radius..

Just autheticating using local databases to the sophos.

Someone mentioned to me that it might not be possible now, but that it might be in the works..

Hi,

The technical functionality which you are trying to deploy is known as EAP - Extensible Authentication Protocol, It is defined in RFC 3748, which made RFC 2284 obsolete, and was updated by RFC 5247. Unfortunately, this is not possible without a Radius Server.
