Issues With DHCP and Locked Out Of XG85

Hi there, I recently installed an XG85 firewall and have run into problems.

Firstly, I have managed to lock myself out of the device itself. This happened due to selecting DHCP rather than static on the LAN port. Now, I am unable to actually connect to the box. I logged directly into the router, and matched the MAC address to the assigned IP, however I still can't access it. Has anybody hit this before, if so how do I get it all back to the basic/factory settings? Somehow I did this last night, and somehow I resolved it... however foolish me did the same thing again today and for the life of me I can't figure out how I got into it!

In other words, can I do a factory reset without logging into the device or can someone provide info on what network settings I require to log into the thing now that it is not the default IP?

The second issue is that when I was able to log in, none of the machines on the LAN were given an IP. I assume I need to set up a rule for this. The Firewall was set up as a gateway if that helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay an update.
I have just this minute managed to get back into the thing and factory reset it!

Here's how I did it (it's stupidly obvious.. but it may help others):
Took the firewall home, and had some food :) Then, plugged it into my home network via ethernet cable from LAN port to the router. Found the IP (using LanScan, OSX here guys), and connected to the Firewall directly over WiFi using the https://192.168.1.XXX:4444 and it worked! No messing about with ethernet cables, which is where I was going wrong before.

So, now I'm going to watch a film, and then get the thing going again. Shall update you all on this, however this is what I believe I need: community.sophos.com/.../123133 I.E. instead of the router providing DHCP IPs in Gateway mode, the Firewall will do this for me. I think.

good to hear that you were able to get in. Anyway use your XG as DHCP server. Also logging to console, you can reset the XG in 2 ways:

Hi, so I'm still having some issues with setting up the XG as a DHCP server.
Following these guides: community.sophos.com/.../123133
It says to use Port C, which I am assuming is the DMZ port on the device. This port is not set up, and, I was hoping to do this using the LAN (Port 2) port on the device.

However, as this interface has the standard IP 172.16.16.16, I can't set this up to use the normal 192.168.1.x range.

Does anyone have any advice how to go about sorting this out?

Richard,

from the Sophos Guide, Port C is an example. You can use any interface you want. At home, for example, XG is acting as DHCP on my LAN and it works with no issue.

Okay thanks, so if I want to set up the LAN port to provide dynamic IP addresses, will I need to reconfigure the interface to use a 192.168.1.X IP rather than the 172.16.16.16 one?

Set the LAN Port to have a 192.168.1.X IP and then set up the DHCP to use that port.
The machines are now receiving IP addresses.
