Web usage by domain - how to deal with CDN's ?

Has anyone tried to look at web usage reports when much of traffic comes from CDNs ? Instead a single "Akamai" domain, I have lots of strange named hostnames. That's confusing. I think it should be possible to group domains on certain level.

What do you think ?

  • Hi Slawski,

    Interesting question.

From what I understand are you looking forward for a Report structure where CDN are grouped  ?

Can you provide me a snap shot for the reports you are concerned ? This will help me further investigate this matter.

    Thanks

  • I don't have a screenshot handy but let's consider the following set of URLs:

    cdn1.cloudfront.net
    cdn2.cloudfront.net
    cdn3.cloudfront.net

All those 3 domain names appear as separate on the report. I would like to group them by .cloudfront.net domain as they are basically the same thing for me.

    Regards,
    Slawek
