Password

Question

I get confused with the password in the new SFOS. When setting the new appliance, it will ask you to set two passwords during the initial setup wizard. 
 The first one is the Storage Master Key. I'm not sure what is this for and when we will need this key. 
 The second one is the Email notification password. Not sure what is this for also. 
 The third one is the backup encryption password in the "Backup & firmware" screen in the management GUI. 
 Does anyone have a clear explanation of these passwords? Does the "backup encryption password" = "Email notification password"?

 You will need it when you want to restore from a backup.

Hello there, Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community. 
 The secure storage master key provides extra protection for the account details stored on Sophos Firewall. The key encrypts sensitive information, such as passwords, secrets, and keys, preventing unauthorized access. 
 For the Email Notification password, I believe you are referring to the " Mail Server Settings "? If so, that would be required to Authenticate to the external Mail Server before sending the email. 
 The "Backup & restore" password is the password you would need to enter to be able to restore the backup.

Hello. 
 As Rfcat mentioned, when you are restoring the backup the system will ask you for the SSMK so you have to know both the encryption password of the backup (This one basically only encrypts the file itself) and the SSMK password to be able to use it.
