Home License for a Sophos SG

Hello,

I can get a Sophos SG refurbished for a good price. Is it possible to use a Sophos SG/XG with a Home License or only the new XGS, which is overpowered for my home lab.

Is ist also possible to use the Sophos SG / XG in a fiber uplink, carrier is 1und1 in Germany (FTTH) at the moment I am using a Fritzbox 5590 Fiber with a GPON SFP Modul. Thanks for help!

  • Hello,

thabk you for answer. I can get a SG 330 or a SG 115. Is it possible to Upgrade SFP Ports and are Access Points possible with the private license?

  • Hi,

I would suggest the sg330. Sophos APs work with the home licence and can be managed from the XG GUI. Now the AP6s series you either manage from the GUI on the AP or via Central with the home licence on the CM (retains 7 days data and has some limits.) I am not sure about the SFP ports, if compatible then yes.

  • One more Question:

I have a fritzbox. Do I have to enable PPPoE Passthrough on the modem? Do I have to enter my ISP Credentials in the Sophos UTM or can I connect directly the fiber link up to the Sophos without a modem or router?

  • Hi,

really depends on the function of the Friitzbox, is it a modem or just an ethernet connection or is it a media convertor as well? The XG can decode PPPoE, so you could try and add your ISP credentials in the XG.
