Failed Backup on Sophos Firewall 19.5.3 - Status 500 - Failed to take database dump

Hi all, first time posting. Generally Sophos Firewall and previously the UTM has been running fine for me.

But recently I was trying to upgrade to the 20.0 version of the Sophos Firewall on my Sophos Firewall Home license. Unfortunately the upgrade failed and it rolled back to 19.5.3.

Now, when I click on the Backup now in the Backup & Firmware pane in the admin GUI fails to take a backup of the config. I need this configuration backed up. Should have tried to do this before the upgrade attempt.....

Anyway, manually running the following in the Advance Console/shell yields an error. I've narrowed it down to a database dump failing in the backup process but can't find any references online to resolve.

*********_SFOS 19.5.3 MR-3-Build652# opcode system_backup -ds nosync
512 OK
{ "statusmessage": "Failed to take database dump", "status": 500 }

Can any learned ones here suggest a way forwards? Last good known backup was Dec 2023. Hoping I don't have to go that far back as I have config I need today.

Cheers,

WS

  • Thanks for the suggestion Ian. The command system fsck-on-nextboot on and a reboot didn't show any issues on the console screen. Isn't it suppose to show an error given fsck is being run on the three partititions, if there was a corruption? I thought if it was a serious corruption with the underlying disk fsck would continually show an error everytime you run it.
