Choosing a software xg license

I am migrating our current software UTM firewall to the software XG version but I find it hard to decide how much memory I need in my license.

At this moment I am on the trial license with a vm that has 8gb memory.

For the UTM the 50 ip license was enough, and now I need to decide to go for the 6gb or the 8 gb version.

Today (monday on the screenshot) 99% of the users and servers are migrated. In the course of the last week the peak was at 5317mb so with the 6gb license that would give me 683mb of free memory space left.

Currently the ssl inspection is off as it gave me some issues I'll try to fix that a later moment.

And the drop on thursday in the screenshot is because a reboot and firmware update. But if I follow the line the memory use seems to increase slowly.

My question is in your experienced opinion is it enough to start a 3 year license with this amount of spare space left or do I need to go for the 8gb software license?

And if so why do you think I need the 8gb?

  • Hello Vivek,

I am in contact with our sales partner.

I was just curious about other end users experience in this matter as second opinion.

The sizing guide seems to be a good tool but only available as a partner which I am not.

Personally I think the trial without hardware limitation seems to be a good way to see what my enviroment needs.

It was just about what others were thinking about the margin of free space as acceptable.
