TAR import fails

Hi folks,

I have read the various articles any getting any closer to a solution.

https://community.sophos.com/sophos-xg-firewall/f/discussions/136793/export-edit-import-selective-configuration

I have created a new tar file after editing the exported one in MAC tar, I have tried various naming formats but to no avail.

Thoughts please.

Ian

I tried exporting a file, then using MAC tar creating a new file which I tried to import and it failed. Not good.

  • Hi Ian, I just succeeded in exporting and importing an IP Host file.
I exported only the IP hosts, edited one entry, deleted all the other entries.

    How did i achieve this?
    1. i have 7zip installed on my PC and have .tar associated with 7zip
    2. i have Notepad++ installed and have .xml associated with it

After downloading the .tar export i just double click on it and it opens in 7zip, i then open the subfolder and double click on the entities.xml file which opens in Notepad++.
Once finished editing the xml i save it with Notepad++, close the file, close Notepad++. 7zip then asks if the entities.xml in the tar file should be updated. Select yes, close the tar file and close 7zip.

This .tar was recognized by the SFOS importer...

    [corrected some typos]
