XG 210 Admin Password Reset via COM Port

Doesn't appear anybody knows the original admin user account password, so I'm trying to reset it via the COM port on the front of our XG 210 firewall.  Once we reset it I'll then login via GUI to do the official reset per all the materials I've read.

I've confirmed the port after installing the USB Serial Driver outlined here:

It opens a session via the specific COM port but I can never get any prompts in the Putty session.  Any ideas Community?

Thanks, Happy Friday!!!

then access GUI and type current password “admin” and set a new one

  • Hi

Thanks for your reply.  I was going to try to type RESET but once the putty session connects to port comX, well I'm never getting any kind of prompt.  I've tried typing and pressing enter with no luck however.  I've got the rate at 38400 and other settings etc as pointed out but like I say I get no actual password prompt.

  • Try to check with another console cable that comes with Sophos XG Box or buy a new console cable  and check with different desktops or laptops to get CLI.

    Thanks and Regards

  • Unfortunately I was out of office today with a young one with strep throat.  I'll try again on Tuesday, but unless I have a cable issue I would get the Putty session but never got the prompt like you show in your screenshot.

  • Hi Jim

Thanks for your update over chat that your issue got resolved by changing new console cable
