XG FIREWALL HARDWARE DEVICE SECURITY

SIR,

XG FIREWALLS ARE COMING WITH 12V DC/ 2 AMP, 3AMP POWER ADAPTER. THESE ADAPTERS DON`T HAVE EARTHING. I REQUEST YOU TO MAKE EARTHING WITHIN THIS ADAPTER. THIS WILL PROTECT HARDWARE. SPECIALLY IN RAINY SEASON IN INDIA. AS WE HAVE USED CYBEROAM DEVICES THOSE DEVICES HAD EARTHING WITHIN DEVICES. FOR REFERANC I M UPLOADING SOME IMAGES.

  • Hi,

    putting an earth lug on the power brick will not earth the XG because the power brick isolates the mains from the XG by virtue of being a switch mode powersupply.You should be ensuring your XG is earthed via the rack it is installed in.

  • Hello,

    This is the information provided by the Hardware team:

    ""Based on the adapter’s specification and safety certification requirement – These are Class II adapter’s and don’t need to have earthing pin design. Class II feature additional safety precautions such as double insulation or reinforced insulation, thereby eliminating the need for a protective earth (ground) connection. Cyberoam product were Class I adaptor’s, which required additional earthing pin design.""

  • Sir,

         As compare to Cyberoam firewall`s smps, Sophos`s adapter is less secure( our own experience). We used Cyberom firewall for three years without any hardware issue/failure in the same rack. After migration from cyberoam to sophos, within two years our-

    * power adapter became faulty (XG 86, 12V dc/ 2Amp).

    * Two Xg 125 firewall became faulty - First firewall`s Port became faulty. Second firewall`s Booting problem.

    To make more hardware secure I request you to give us proper solution for earthing within Sophos`s adapter. We have VALRACK 36U rack, earthing is available within this rack.
