Unable to use Sophos Access Points with XG Firewall?

I can not get my AP30 to show up in Protection > Wireless Protection > Access Points or Objects > Assets > Access Points.  The AP is connected to my LAN port and the lights look to be good.  It was also working fine with the UTM 9 software before I loaded the XG Firewall software.   The Log Viewer shows the entry:

  • Shoot, I'm having the same exact problem. I just blew away our SG at the office tonight and loaded the new OS. Now we are without wireless. I'll keep poking around and hopefully I find something soon!

Mine are AP55Cs FWIW, but getting the same exact message in the Log VIewer.  Quick Google search shows there might be an answer on the old UBB, but can't access it.

    EDIT:

I was able to look in the old astaro.org site and found this thread.  I'll give it a try and let everyone know.  (Hopefully this pastes alright)

Default Issue setting up AP 10
An AP10 is the only AP I have around for testing right now. It worked fine in the Partner Alpha and now I get this. "[Unknown] unknown AP model encountered: AP10, dropping." It gives a Message ID 17999. I have Eth0, Eth2, and Eth3 in a bridge. AP10 is plugged into Eth2.

Perhaps it has been bricked during a firmware update recently. Could you use the reflash tool to recover it and then try again.
I'm using an AP10 with the current BETA and all is well.

    Hi,
    information you haven't included
1/. how is the AP connected to Copernicus, bridged to LAN, seperate zone?
2/. does the eth02 have its own DHCP server range?
3/. is an IP address assigned to the AP?

Very similar problem here. AP 100 on the LAN interface, has an IP from DHCP, is set to allowed in the network list. Message ID 17999 "[Unknown] unknown AP model encountered: AP100, dropping."

Works fine on UTM 9.350. This is on SFOS 15.01.0 Beta-2

OK, unplugging the AP and waiting an hour allowed it to be discovered when reconnected. Odd.
  • Hay guys. My AP30 was getting an IP via HDCP..  but no luck getting it recognized as a usable Access Point.  So I gave up and reloaded UTM 9.3. The Access Point is now recognized by utm 9.3 and working as normal, so it's not a problem with the Access Points it's the XG Firewall.

  • I agree. I'm seeing the same thing. All my AP55s have IP addresses in the correct VLAN (Even tried making it a flat network) and the XG just flat out won't recognize them. One things i noticed, when you go to System/Updates it shows all the current firmware for the relevant items. There is no AP Firmware listed in the current version. So I'm wondering if that accidently got left out or something. But I'm afraid I'm going to have to back rev to 9 tonight so we can have wifi in the office in the morning. Hopefully theres a fix soon as I would actually like to run SFOS.

    Thanks
  • Hi folks,
there is a new AP firmware release which has been automatically installed on my SF-OS which fixed the error message issue. My AP10 is now recognised and I have activated it.

    Ian M

Further, I had to rebuild my SF-OS using the home licence and the AP software downloaded and updated the SF-OS,

    XG115W - v20.0.2 MR-2 - Home

    XG on VM 8 - v21 GA

  • Firmware for the Access Point update after reloading the firewall.  Recognizing the Sophos Access points now.  Thanks for the update Sophos. :-)

  • I had also the same problem with an AP30 even after the software update. The only solution: Flashing the AP30 with the recovery tool: www.sophos.com/.../118843.aspx
  • \EDIT

All of a sudden a bunch of replies popped up which answered my question, the recovery tool. Thanks!

    \EDIT

Hello, appreciate your answer and great you got it working.

    Just a short question though.

I've got my AP30 connected to the Sophos, but it does not pop up.

It says AP version 3.0.001 on the "Updates" section of the XG and no newer updates available. How do i update the AP if the XG cannot see it?

Is there a tool i need downloaded for this task?

    Thanks in advance.
