Home License option

I currently downloaded XG and installed it as a VM to attempt to populate as much as possible by hand into XG. When I logged in I noticed that my license is only for 30 days. I am aware that tools for migration from UTM-9 are coming mid-2016 but I am bumping my 50 IP mark on a regular basis and was going to attempt to manually populate a XG VM with as much as possible, create a backup, install XG on my UTM 9 hardware (Software Install) and import backup that I created from the VM, hoping this would work and with final downtime.

TIA

  • Hi Ron, did you request an eval or home use version? Installer is the same, but the serial number is not. Licenses are tied to the serial number, so you won't get a home use license if you install with an eval license. There's not any way yet to switch a serial number to home use. Check here to get a home use license/serial number: www.sophos.com/.../sophos-xg-firewall-home-edition.aspx
  • All I did is hit the activation button. Did I miss something?

Goes through the same information and the first Item on the list is:

    1. You should receive an email shortly with your evaluation serial number. (Please note that it can take several minutes to arrive).

    From the e-mail I got::

Thank you for your interest in Sophos XG Firewall.

You are now ready to begin your 30-day free trial.

Also the getting started link give you a Sophos formatted "Sorry" Page

  • I also have the issue with the getting started section which i presume has the password needed during setup. Also is there a difference between the XG Firewall or XG UTM? are they the same product ? what is the successor to UTM 9? offers free home license?
  • Hi, guys, we're still in the process of getting the documentation uploaded. And I notice the message at the top of the Home Use email says 30-days, this needs to be corrected (both the license and the email).

However, all the information you should need to get up and running is in the email sent to you after filling out the online forms... here's a copy... and note where the serial number is near the bottom of the instructions...

    To get started:

You can refer to the documentation for complete details on the following steps:

    1. Install the downloaded image on your preferred hardware or virtual environment (Note: the installation will overwrite the previous operating system and all files).

    2. Upon starting for the first time, access the setup screen at https://172.16.16.16:4444 (Note: it may take a few minutes for the necessary services to start before the setup screen is ready).

    3. When you are prompted the default administrator credentials are:
    Username: admin
    Password: admin

    4. Make sure the device is setup for internet access (required for activation): change the network settings from the Basic Setup screen if necessary.

    5. Enter your serial number (provided below) into the setup screen and click "Activate Appliance".

    6. Then register your device with your MySophos ID by clicking "Register Device" and entering your MySophos ID and password that you used to download the software.

    7. Once the device is registered, you can initiate License Synchronization and proceed with the rest of the configuration.

    Your Serial Number:
    C0111111111111111

Please refer to the documentation to make sure your evaluation goes smoothly: www.sophos.com/.../documentation.aspx.

There are an Appendix link within the online documentation that has 'Virtual Appliance Getting Started Guide' but it simply links back to the 'Software Appliance' guide.

When in doubt, Script it out.

  • I have registered and downloaded the Sophos XG twice. I still haven't received the activation email.
I have re-stetted my password to make sure i am checking the right email, and i did the password reset email.
Its been almost an hour, and still no email.
  • I have the license now, 2 of them.

    I have other problem:
"No internet connection. Check your internet connection as described in the product documentation."

While interface B has either static or DHCP assigned IP, and I can ping 8.8.8.8 from the console of the XG - so there is internet connection.
  • i can't register the XG Firewall. I put LAN 1/A on a seperate test net on my esx and connected both LAN 2 & 3 to my normal LAN so that they get an Internet Connection through my sophos utm 9.

DNS works via shell, but for example can't ping another host.
