Backdraw of Phone Number Access/Report with SMC Version 9.7.10098

Hello,

I got the statement from Sophos via Ticket Support.

I opened an Ticket because multiple Devices cant access Phone Number in Central/Mobile .

We got no Information from Sophos before.

Phone Numer Access is a MDM basic Function. We cant miss it.

Doing it all in Future from hands with mistakes ?

We are not happy about that.

Peter

  • Sophos Ticket 05545518  :

    Hi Peter,

Please note we are currently not reporting back the phone number anymore. As of Sophos Mobile Control 9.7.10098 we had to change that. Perhaps this might change in the future, but there is currently no plan to do so.

Google didn't like that we are reporting the phone number from Sophos mobile control app. They claimed that this is against their privacy policy. and therefore, we had to remove that from the app.

  • We use our Android devices only in Full Android Enterprise mode.

Devices here are fully company property and fully company managed.

    Privacy issue ???

  • Hi

Just providing a bit more context on this. A change in Google specifications meant the previous method used to sync device phone number from the Sophos Mobile app is no longer available. We are reviewing options for re-instating the functionality in a future release.

    regards

    Tom

  • Thanks,Tom,

The picture for mne is clearer . Its more a kind of smc app mal function in conjunction with new Google rules.

And please fix is. It is an important basic MDM function, access to all device Phone Numbers.

In realtime. So numbers are 100 Percent correct.

We are running all Android devices in "Full Android Enterprise Mode". All devices are property of our compamy.

So I think, our company has the right to read Phone Numbers of employess via Sophos Mobile.

    I see no privacy dilemma.

    Thanks,

    Peter
