Password policy for iPad auto-lock time period

Hi Team

We are using Sophos mobile deployment for our iPads

The latest iOS on the iPads gives several options to use Auto-Lock screen time which include 10 and 15min wait time

These options are not avialable in the Password Policy option for Auto-Lock in Sophos mobile

Can you assist? Is there anything we can do to increase the Auto-lock on the policy to 10min ( current maximum available is 5min )

Thanks

KCDC

  • Hi

Unfortunately, the auto-lock time is set to a maximum 5 minutes. The device will be locked if it has not been used. You can try the "Maximum grace period for device lock" within the Passcode settings which helps for how long the device can be unlocked after a lock without a password prompt. You can raise a feature request for the option to be added in future releases.

  • Hello There

We tried the combination of Auto-Lock and Grace Period ( both set to 5min ) which should give 10 min of period without password on the i-device.

    This did not work.

In fact after successfully applying the policy to the device we went on to the device settings and checked the option it was set to Immediately requiring password.

How we should test the combo between Auto-Lock and Grace period so to have 10 min of time without asking a password ?

    Thanks

  • Hi

As stated in this documentMaximum Auto-Lock (in minutes) means that you can specify the maximum value the user is allowed to configure on the device. Auto-Lock specifies how soon (in minutes) the device will be locked if it has not been used. While Maximum grace period for device lock means you can specify the maximum value the user is allowed to configure on the device. The grace period for device lock specifies for how long the device can be unlocked after a lock without a password prompt. If you select None, the user can select any of the intervals available. If you select Immediately, users must enter a password every time they unlock their devices.

So, you can set the Maximum Auto-Lock to 5 minutes and set the Maximum grace period for device lock to 15 minutes. So the device will not automatically lock itself until 5 minutes and once it is unlocked, it will not ask for a password for 15 minutes.
