Automatically update iOS VPP apps assigned to devices

Question

seems very descriptive does the title but the help states the following " Optional Select Automatically update iOS VPP apps assigned to devices to inform the user if there&rsquo;s an update available for a VPP app. This applies to VPP apps assigned to an iPhone or iPad. For VPP apps assigned to a user, the user must check the App Store for updates." 
 so does this auto update apps or just inform the user that an update is available? 
 
 i would like to turn it on but i dont want hundreds of devices prompting the user

Hi Andrew, 
 If the VPP apps are assigned to the device, then the updates will be fetched automatically. If assigned to the user, then they will need to manually update the VPP apps.
