How to preserve email when domain moves to new O365 tenant

I currently have email incoming to Sophos and then going to Office 365.  I need to remove the email domain from one O365 tenant and add it to a different tenant, but I don't want any email to bounce or get lost.  Will Sophos automatically hold onto the email until I setup the domain in the new tenant?  Or do I need to do something to make sure the email doesn't get lost during the transition?

  • Hello Matt,

Thank you for contacting the Sophos Community.

If the MX records will keep pointing to Central Email, valid email that is received by Central Email will show in the Sefl Service portal of the user, then Central Email will try to resend the email for a specific number of times/days to O365 if it’s unable to deliver.

Are you making any change on the Central Email configuration or all of it would be done on O365?

    Regards,

  • Hello, no, I'm not making any changes in Central Email, just in O365.

I ran another test and if I remove the domain from the email address, I get a bounce back message when sending, but the email goes into the Sophos Emergency Inbox.  I then restored the domain and new email started flowing to O365 again, but the emails I sent while the domain was down did not go to the O365 mailbox.  They just stayed in the Emergency Inbox.

Can you tell if I'm doing something wrong, or does Sophos not support this ability?
