Error code 00000209 Unexpected error

A number of our SVMs have been reporting the same error for the past 3 days:

Code 00000209 "Could not scan Sophos for Virtual Environments (TM). Unexpected error"

Its important to note that not all of our SVMs have the error. I am able to acknowledge the errors which clears them from SEC.

Knowing how poor Sophos Support has been recently I thought I'd ask here first to see if anyone had any ideas on what may have caused this issue?

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi

When the SSVM is unable to scan a particular file, then this error is generated. Here are a few reasons to why you might be receiving that error.

    • The file/path is encrypted or protected in any way
    • The file is deleted or moved as the scan is taking place
    • The file is being held open by another user/application
    • Corruption

This particular error message will not be observed in SAV for Windows as scan errors are suppressed. This error is no cause for concern, as it is most likely one of the points above that is causing this.

    Thanks,
