  • hi christian

ok iv hased it together due to the fact that the server im useing was already a sum so iv eddited the mrinit.conf and saved it to the relavent places.

iv created a folder and put the server in (all our servers were in one folder in AD together) and set it up with the updateing polaicy for that site. this server will now ref its self for AV updates on the server.

the update manager is setup to update from the SEC server.

so how do i test this and hope it works.

    Kurt.

  • Hello Kurt,

was already a sum so iv eddited the mrinit.conf

turning the SUM server into a relay this way worked up to SUM 1.5.1 - with 1.5.2 (and RMS 4.0) you must use the desired mrinit.conf at SUM install time. Don't despair yet :smileyhappy:

Check your SUM's Current parent address (should point to your management server) and RMS router type by opening %ProgramData%\Sophos\Remote Management System\3\Router\NetworkReport\ReportData.xml. If the former is correct and the latter says endpoint (it hasn't converted to a message relay) then set the applicable registry keys to the values given in Enterprise Console: configuring message relay computers under Technical information. Restart the service and check ReportData.xml which hopefully now says message relay.

  • Hello Kurt,

looks fine. Parent is the list of addresses in mrinit.conf, Current parent is set when a successful contact could be made. And message relay s what e want it to be.

BTW: An endpoint "behind" it should have the relay as Parent. And just for completeness, on the management server the router type is server and the Parent vaules Not available.
