Sophos will not allow me to install Anaconda for Python, it blocks pythonw.exe as ransomware

this seems to be Central. Are you the Central administrator? If so, there's an article on how to deal with false positives. Detections of pythonw.exe have also been mentioned as FP in this thread.

I am not a an administrator, just an end point trying to install Anaconda.

you'd need your site's administrator to set an exemption and to submit the sample.

You have to contact Sophos for an updated hitman (hmpalert3.exe). I had this issue 3 month ago, and it took Sophos 3 weeks to get me the fix. Sophos told me that new update will be released in September. However, it is October and no new updates. I am still installing hitman updates manually to individual machines. No words from Sophos, yet.
