Console reporting inconsistant update information

We've been running on Enterprise Console 4.0 since November and been experiencing an inconsistency in the dashboard icon and the server update status. The Server reports updated, the desktops report updated, but he dashboard icon for 'Updates' reports the updates are 'stuck' at November 20th, 2009 at approximately 10:30am  - 1924 hours stale.

Its not really a huge deal as the updates are in fact flowing, but I can't use the dashboard alert functionality.

Anyone know what exactly the icon is checking?

I've had a case open with Sophos Support for 2 months now, and my rep doesn't understand what is going on either.

Looks like it's comparing a value from the database (table SDDMServers) with the current time. I have seen a once and on a few occasions it turned warning yellow. But each time at least on of the fields indicated an error or some date in the past. So the Update managers pane has blank Alerts and Errors columns and Last update and Download status show "correct" values?

Odd, I have an which also looks like some "internal communication problem" ...

  • Ah ha!

No luck in SDDMServers - those all are updated, but I stumbled accross the EMLibraryServers table - and found a single row for our old update server we used for PureMessage. It had been decomissioned on November 20th when it was migrated to the new combinged PM/AV Server. The software was uninstalled, but the database entry remained. Manually changing the date in 'NotificationTime' fixed the problem.

I'd say it was a bug that the dashboard is checking the update status of a server that isn't listed under update managers, but maybe my situation was a bit unusual.

I'll follow up with suppport to see the best way to remove the old reference.

    Thanks for the tip!

  • Turns out that the old EMLibrary server was protected with new AV - possibly before a full uninstall.

Deleting the host from the console resulted in a message that 'One or more of the selected computers hold Sophos "libraries"...' after proceeding, it removed the extraneous entry from the EMLibraryServers table in the database.
