Trouble deploying to Windows 7

I'm getting an error in the Enterprise Console when trying to protect a new laptop running Windows 7; the message is:

"Window Workstation: cannot be installed automatically"

Enerprice Console Version - 2.0.0.1447

Laptop AV version - 6.5.0

I followed all the steps listed here: http://www.sophos.com/support/knowledgebase/article/63196.html but to no avail.

Can anyone help?

  • Hi,

    I have SCF2 running on my Windows 7 Pro laptop and I didn't do anything prior to installing so it should work fine.

    I assume the service that is failing is:

    "Sophos Client Firewall" - "C:\Program Files\Sophos\Sophos Client Firewall\SCFService.exe"

    If so I would try the following to better understand what might be wrong.

    1. Create the key:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sophos\Sophos Client Firewall\debug\SCFService.exe]
    "filename"="C:\\scf.txt"
    Then try and start the above service.  This should log to "C:\scf.txt", it's quite verbose but an error message in there might point you in the right direction.

    2. Use ProcessMonitor (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx) when starting the service.  This is a quick way in identifying a problem with permissions to either the registry or files.

    If you're still having no joy, I would recommend opening a case with Sophos support supplying these 2 logs, saving the Process Monitor log files as a PML, including all events.

    I hope this helps

    Thanks.
